Zweifel, how it all began - At the beginning of the 1950s, on a farm in Katzenrüti near Rümlang in the canton of Zurich, Hans Meier, a cousin of Heinrich Zweifel Sr., fried the first potato chips in a huge field kitchen pan. The processing of potatoes into chips mainly took place in repurposed household appliances. What was intended as an enhancement for the in-house apple juice turned out to be a customer highlight right from the start. The experiment, viewed critically by many, turned out to be a very promising idea for the future.
As early as 1958, the crispy chips were professionally launched under the Zweifel brand. The incomparable taste and the visionary fresh service, which from 1962 was on the road across Switzerland with eye-catching Zweifel buses, made the chips known and sought after everywhere in no time at all. Zweifel can now look back on almost 60 years of success and enjoys a market share of 80% of the potato chips market in Switzerland.
