The roots of the Yellow Enzian flower, or Gentian build the basis of this product. It's bitter taste and clear color are the trademark of this traditional Appenzell product.
Gentian facts:
Gentian grows in the Alpine regions in Switzerland. They are especially a notable feature of mountain regions, where the moisture-loving plants have access to underground water in summer and snow cover in winter. The name Gentian derives from Gentius, king of ancient Illyria and alleged discoverer of the plant’s medicinal value. The Yellow Gentian is found in Switzerland and is the source of flavoring liqueurs.
Appenzeller Alpenbitter is a family owned company with tradition since 1902. Emil Ebneter, founder of today’s Appenzeller Alpenbitter AG, not only gave the company valuable recipes, he also passed on a set of values that continue to be maintained, and which form the basis of the company’s success. The family-owned company has remained true to its tradition and continues to be an independent Swiss company.
