Le Gruyère AOP – World’s Best Cheese Award 2022

From a selection of 4’434 cheeses from 42 countries around the globe that entered the World Cheese Awards 2022 held in the U.K., Le Gruyère AOP Surchoix won the world’s best cheese award. The judges described the Le Gruyère AOP cheese as a ‘really refined, hand-crafted cheese’ that melts on the tongue and has notes of herbs, fruits and leather. ‘A cheese with a lot of taste and bouquet.

Gruyère- or in German Greyerzer is a hard yellow Swiss cheese that originated in the cantons of Fribourg, Vaud, Neuchâtel, Jura, and Berne in Switzerland. It is named after the town of Gruyères. Gruyère is sweet but slightly salty, with a flavor that varies widely with age. It is often described as creamy and nutty when young, becoming more assertive, earthy, and complex as it matures. When fully aged (five months to a year), it tends to have small cracks that impart a slightly grainy texture.
