Mr. Ueli Prager started the Mövenpick restaurant business in Switzerland in 1948. “Möve” means seagull in German and “pick” represents the special hunting technique of seagulls – always picking the freshest and the best food. This is the belief of how food is prepared at Mövenpick – Only serving the best.

Originated from the legendary Swiss Kitchen since 1963, coffee is one of the greatest success stories of Mövenpick. The signature coffee was blended, roasted and brewed in the legendary Swiss Kitchen with Mövenpick secret recipe. It was so popular in the restaurant that Mövenpick eventually decided to pack it into a tin can, naming it as “Der Himmlische” meaning “Heavenly” in 1963, and allowing customers to bring their best coffee home for enjoyment. This is how the first Mövenpick branded coffee products came to the market.
