Edelweiss flowers usually represent devotion and deep love. Why, you might ask? For starters, the flower has a short life span and is grown in the most remote, rockiest areas of the Alps. It is difficult to find, so when men harvested the flowers for their loved ones, it was a true testament to their devotion. It is called by botanists the Gnaphalium leontopodium, but by the Swiss 'Edelweisse', which signifies 'Noble Purity'. Together with the alpine gentian, the edelweiss is also a symbol of lonely peaks and pure air in the Alps today.
